Winemakers and blues recording artists Tess and Patrik Barr have been making music and wine together since the 80’s.
Starting out as “the secret winery” it was fun to have a private by appointment only winery to share with family and friends. The secret is out! Now with dozens of awards and a stunning, new tasting room, Hood Crest Winery is a must see Hood River winery and a showcase for Columbia Gorge and Columbia Valley varietals.
Hood Crest Winery is a family owned and operated winery in the Columbia Gorge AVA. Located at the foot of spectacular Mt. Hood in the picturesque Valley of Hood River Oregon. Fifteen years ago the Barr’s started making sparkling apple wine using the traditional methode champenoise with great success. The family moved from Washington to Hood River in 2003 where they purchased vacant farm land and planted grapes. Longtime friends had established vineyards to the East growing Merlot, Syrah and Malbec. They started making wine from these grapes and now have sourced out what they feel are the best varietals from other growers, making wines from the Columbia Gorge and Columbia Valley. Raising a family that is now part of the winery operations, they have focused more and more of their energies to the growing success of their small “secret winery”.
Focusing on big red varieties such as Merlot, Malbec, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and red blends, they also make quality gorge Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Riesling.
Hood Crest Winery focuses on boutique wines and gourmet, handcrafted pizzas, perfect for pairing with a flight or glass of their award-winning wines. From Classic Italian pizzas, to inspired Mediterranean , Spanish and French styles, they are also kid- and pet-friendly.
Thank You for a very special first season in our new tasting room! We are now open Wednesday through Sunday and holiday Mondays 11-6. Join us on Saturday afternoons for live music by The Tess Barr Band 3:00 to 5:30!
As we have a full kitchen with a full menu, we do not allow outside food or picnic baskets. Try one of our handmade pizzas or hand cut pasta with our homemade sauces! Or a fabulous charcuterie platter with our home made bread, a Caprese salad, or one of our organic greens salad!
